Lift the Weight Off Your Shoulders
With the widespread popularity (seriously, everyone and their mother has an off the shoulder top by this point), I figured it was high time for me to hop on the bandwagon. My selection to take on the trend is this blue and white (a madison classic, literally hahah) dress.
For the longest time, I was convinced that this style would not work for me. A majority of the tops are cropped, a look that doesn't flatter my body type, and those that aren't always look extremely boxy. Honestly, I didn't even want to try on this dress, already sure I would look like a rectangle in it, but my mom persuaded me to go for it. She's a huge advocate for off the shoulder anything, which turned out to benefit me in this case. The second I tried it on, I fell in love and knew I had to have it. Not only does it come in my favorite pattern and color combination, but I can move my arms freely without the top looking awkward on my shoulders, which was a another huge concern of mine.
Now, I can proudly say I am a big fan of the off the shoulder trend, and I understand the hype around how incredible it makes your collar bones and shoulders look. If you're trying to show off those features, this is the style for you!
Even though this dress works well by itself, I wanted to add just a little something extra to the ensemble, so it looked more put together than just a dress. This led to the discovery of my new favorite accessory: the neck scarf.
This small scarf adds the perfect touch of class to an outfit, instantly taking a look from average to fashion-forward. Lucky for me, my mom had a plethora of them left over from her late 20's. I found this one in the pile and fell in love, knowing it would be cohesive with many of the pieces already in my closet. The blue trim matches the blue stripes on the dress so well it's hard to believe they were sold separately.
With so much color going on in the dress and scarf, I decided to utilize a more neutral palette for the purse and shoes.
I love the soft, blush hue of this purse, which adds a cheerful touch without detracting from the statement dress and scarf. These shoes are also some of my all time favorites. Though they're unique themselves, the gladiator style seems less attention-grabbing in the tan shade, again allowing the dress and scarf to take center stage in the ensemble.
This outfit was absolutely perfect for walking through city streets, shopping, and taking a boat ride through the harbor. It's easy, comfortable, and breathable for the summer heat, while still looking polished and fashionable. I think it's going to be a new go-to look for me through the rest of the summer and into the school year. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
