#MotivationMonday

Hello, wonderful people! It's me, A Madison Classic, back with yet another quote in an attempt to help you through this beautiful day of the week. I have a great feeling that this could be your best Monday ever, so get excited!

Today's quote, shockingly, was not discovered in a book, I don't think. Since we're friends, I want to be completely honest. I'm not entirely sure where these incredible words came from in the first place. I didn't make note of it like I normally do and I can't find it anywhere on Google, so I'm calling the author anonymous. I hope you still enjoy, and stay tuned because I hope to have another book recommendation for you next week. With that, here's today's #MotivationMonday.

"It can be so easy to overlook the beauty in our journeys."

- Anonymous

In liu of a book recommendation, I'm just going to hop into my take on these beautiful words.

At the current point of my life, this quote is something I have to try to remind myself constantly. I am always so caught up in the mindset of 'what next?' Whether it's counting down the days until the weekend or simply the minutes until I'm out of class, I'm always waiting, waiting for what else is coming up in my life. In all honesty, I'm even the type of person to start talking about how few days of vacation are left when I'm on a trip. It's getting to be a problem, but I can't be the only one. How many of us are too focused on the future to pay attention to the wonderful things going on around us at a particular moment of time?

In a sense, I'm completely overlooking the beauty of my journey, especially of the everyday trek. Instead, I'm only seeing the joy in what lies ahead, but why? Is it lack of diversity in daily life and the excitement of something different? Or is it lack of appreciation for anything that won't entice our peers to 'like' our picture or envy our lives? No matter what the explanation, it's wrong, and it needs to change. Yes, class isn't as fun as a road trip and jobs aren't as fun as exotic vacations, but they are beautiful in their own way.

Someday, you'll miss the corny, dad jokes your professor cracks everyday. You'll miss the late night study dates with your friends, even if you never will miss test taking. You'll miss pretty walks to meetings and the smiling Starbucks barista who has far too much positivity for the length of lines he deals with. You'll miss waking up in your bed at the house you grew up in. You'll miss hugging your parents before going to sleep. You'll miss the feeling of achievement when you run and actually catch the bus before it drives away. You'll miss the pew your family always sat in during church, including all the other familiar families that always sat around you. You'll miss binge-watching Netflix until the wee hours of the morning, and you'll miss having lunch-time gossip sessions with your co-workers at your entry level job.

You'll miss all of these things because they have so much raw beauty in them, despite not being experiences you count down the days for. There truly is beauty in the ordinary parts of life, the parts we glance by without a second thought. This week, I challenge you to take notice of the small things, the parts of your day that seem completely repetitive, mundane, and ordinary. Then, think about how life would be different if you didn't have them. Overall, I think you'll be surprised.

It is so easy to overlook the beauty in our journeys, simply because we want to only appreciate the highlights. Let me just say, our lives are so much more than the highlights. Everyday is beautiful, all on its own. We have to start to stop and stare at the little, daily things more often.

i hope you discover a plethora of unknown beauty in your life; maybe reading this blog happens to be one of them.

xoxo madison
