Hello + Happy Holiday season to you all. For those of you who are subscribed, maybe seeing a post notification from A Madison Classic was a little shocking, and for that, I am sorry. Truthfully, I underestimated how busy my life at college was going to be. In my head, when I started this blog , I was going to have ample free time to write, take pictures, and create content for you all to read, but then, reality hit me, and I just couldn't seem to find the time to continue posting on A Madison Classic.
While I was bummed about it at the time, I now realize that this short hiatus was actually incredibly beneficial for the future of this blog, as I got to dive deeper into my reasoning for its creation. I found myself asking questions: Why did I want to start a blog in the first place? What do I want readers to get out of A Madison Classic? What kind of content do I really want to produce?
As a result of this soul-searching, I have finally answered these questions. I want this blog to be a way for me to express myself, as well as a place to share my thoughts and feelings, however I think to be best at the time. I want my readers to feel inspired after they have looked at my site, no matter if that's inspiration in how they dress, what they read, or the quotes that stay on their mind day after day. In terms of content, I feel like fashion is something that I am growing out of by the day. Yes, I still enjoy shopping and dressing up, but I'm afraid I'm falling into a basic, everyday wardrobe, rather than wearing exciting, unique pieces. Because of this, producing fashion-focused content is no longer enticing me. Though I do plan on posting Outfit of the Day's when I'm feeling extra put together, I want the focus of A Madison Classic to be something more universal: books and quotes.
Books, writing, and words, always have been and always will be extremely important to me. I've kept a note on my phone that houses all my favorite phrases from books I read for as long as I can remember, and this is a passion I want to share with you all. There's nothing more beautiful than the written language, in my opinion, and I hope I can convince you to agree with me. So, from here on out, this site will feature a book review of every novel I read, although I promise travel, fashion, music, and fun surprises will appear too. Fingers crossed it will encourage all of you to at least pick up one book this Christmas Break!!! Without further ado, let's get onto the book review.
Turtles All The Way Down by John Green
(pictured above)
My Rating: 8.5/10
Favorite Quote: "We were looking at the same sky together, which is more intimate than eye contact anyway. Anybody can look at you. It's quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see."
Synopsis: This is the story of Aza, a teenage girl who's father passed away when she was young. In her town, a billionaire disappears the day he's supposed to be arrested, and her friend, Daisy, convinces her to hit the detective trail in the hopes of receiving reward money for turning information over to the police. It just so happens that Aza used to be friends with Davis, the son of the billionaire, which Daisy is convinced will help them in their search. They begin looking for evidence, and Aza gets caught between trying to balance her relationship with her mother, her friendship with Daisy, her rekindled friendship with Davis, and her biggest worry of all: her anxiety. How can she live a normal life when her head feels like nothing is normal at all?
Final Thoughts: Ultimately, I read this book in less than 24-hours. It's an impeccable look into the mind of an individual struggling an inner battle between herself and her mental illness. While I got a little bored a few times, I was overall impressed with the message and insight provided by the novel. John Green has given our generation yet another beautiful story.
