Merry Everything + a Happy Always, a christmas eve lookbook
To say that we're currently at the best time of the year is the best possible way we can phrase it, yet such a massive understatement. For me, it's physically impossible to hold back my smile and holiday cheer during the Christmas season. Beautiful lights are filling neighborhoods, delicious food is filling dinner tables and conversations + laughter are filling every room of the house. As an added bonus, there are ample opportunities for photoshoots, and dressing to the nines is nearly a requirement. In fact, one of my favorite parts of Christmas mass is seeing all the outfits people crafted for the occasion because you know they took more than thirty seconds to decide on an ensemble. Everyone always looks festive and fancy, typically flaunting the colors red or green on some article of clothing.
While it may be an obvious statement, I adore picking out my Christmas Eve outfit. Though I usually follow the pack and throw on something in a holiday color palette, this year I strayed a little from the beaten path, opting for a neutral look.
When I saw this skirt a Nordstrom Rack (typical) this past year, I knew I had to have it. Right off the bat, I loved the length, but I also fell in love with the pattern. Although color-blocking may not be in the spotlight anymore, I thought these three shades worked really well together, giving off a striped look, rather than a color-blocked one. Plus, with three color choices, matching gets much easier.
Since the skirt is a statement piece, I settled on this beautiful black sweater from Zara to pair with it. It's thin enough to tuck into the skirt without any bunching, yet warm enough to keep out the cool South Dakota weather. I am definitely considering purchasing in other colors.
Per usual, I stuck to my simple 'M' necklace around my neck, and though they're not pictured, I wore my short black booties to complete my look. Overall, I felt like this was my first mature Christmas ensemble, and I can finally see the almost 20-year old (!!!) coming out in me through my wardrobe.
Luckily, the rest of my family made up for my lack of wearing the Christmas color scheme, and my mom even brought out Santa hats for the occasion. Honestly, I think that this really is the best time of the year, but not for the presents, the great music selection (jb's mistletoe has been on repeat since thanksgiving i swear), or even the food. Instead, it's the fact that you get the people you love by your side. Today, more than ever, I'm feeling incredibly blessed, thankful, and honored for my friends and family. The English language doesn't have enough words for me to express how I feel, but please just know that I appreciate every single one of you for changing my life in some way. Thank you for giving me a reason to smile this season and every other.
wishing you all a merry everything + a happy always. here's to hoping you're surrounded by people you love today. thank you for the support this year.
xoxo madison
